Black Swan’s Club Scene Broken Down
The frame-by-frame editing of this sequence is absolutely riveting. Freezing at certain points throughout it allows you to see that there is certainly much more going on than what first meets the eye.
A great example of genius direction from Darren Aronofsky. The little details make a big difference.
I caught some of those flashes the second time I saw the film in theaters. Forgot about it until now, though. Cool stuff, for sure.
finally watching this movie. I’m only halfway in and already I’m ten times more blown away than I was during Black Swan. This is seriously good filmmaking like, whoa. Don’t know how it took me this long to get around to watching this. Props to my parents on an excellent choice of Christmas gift.
I am so unbelievably happy you’re watching this!!! It is easily one of my top 3 favorite films and has been since I first saw it six or so years ago. All of the performances are beyond excellent in my opinion, as well as everything else about the film. Let me know your final verdict!! (And you’re right, it’s definitely better than Black Swan.)
Finally saw this on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve with my dad. It left both of us speechless. Literally. We sat through all of the credits and then just a little bit longer, putting everything together in our minds. Ultimately, the ending is open to everyone’s individual interpretation, which I love. But it’s also frustrating because I don’t know what to think. I haven’t a clue. I know what I’d like to think, I know the ending that I think makes the most sense for the storyline. But who knows. All I know is that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since.
Darren Aronofsky is a god. That’s really all this boils down to. See it if you haven’t already.
Oh, and Natalie Portman’s performance was amazing.
I can’t believe I somehow missed that the trailer for this movie was already out, but I’m so glad I finally found it. Natalie Portman is one of my favorite actresses and I absolutely cannot wait to see her dominate this movie. I actually still don’t quite understand the whole thriller aspect of this, the supernatural parts of it are really kinda freakin me out and making me a little bit nervous about whether or not I will be able to handle it, but I’m sure I’ll suck it up because this movie is getting landslides of Oscar buzz.
Which is the one thing I’ll be interested to see play out. If the twisted and supernatural pieces that come across in the trailer are as prominent in the actual film, I will be interested to see how many Oscar nods it actually gets, simply because the Academy doesn’t seem to bite after those type of movies. But, then again, I don’t think Darren Aronofsky has ever made a bad movie, and Natalie Portman is long overdue on an Oscar (only one nomination!?!? seriously people.) so the speculations can keep on flowing. What I’ll be most interested to see is actually Vincent Cassel. He’s another gem in my book, and I can’t wait to see him shine once again.
Overall verdict: pumped. out of my mind. I have no idea what I’ll be going into but, I can’t wait.
Yesssss. Honestly, I don’t give a damn what I’m going into as long as it’s made by Darren Aronofsky. Seriously.
